the small dog in his cage

The small dog in his cage
His owner gives him a good bath
He is all wet and feeling unhappy
Out in the sun for sunbathing

Watching him as I pass by
I whistle at him but he pays no attention
He should recognize me
He used to sniff around my legs

Today, he isn’t in his good mood
All wet and feeling miserable
Alone in the open space
He never barks but shows his sulky face

The owner says her dog needs his bath
The haze and the dusty particles on his fur
But the small dog doesn’t understand
He knows he doesn’t look his best

Likewise, we will feel our blues
When we are sent to prison
For our crimes or misdeeds in our lives
We are caged feeling no joy or smile
