the model 7

Sunny was standing near the tent
He observed her speeches to the villagers
He knew she was good with her words
Even when they were young she could hammer him

Now as a grown up watching the scenes
He knew she could hammer him easily
What now she was a celebrity in her work
He was in the hooliganism to survive

He lighted up a cigarette
Blew the smoke in the air
“What's life?” as he blew the smoke
“Hey Sunny you never came to see me!”

He turned around
“Hi model girl
It is a long time
We are in different league now”

“We are childhood friends
What's with you Sunny?
In the gang business as I was told
That's your life you choose”

“I don't have a good education
Dropped out of school involved in illegal trade
I got some successes and I was happy
I still keep tap on your career”

“Now I am involved in this political campaigns
It's time we should do something to change the landscape
You know too much have been plundered and siphoned off
Leaving our people worst than before

Some have gotten a better deal
They were the followers of the ruling elites
The rest of us are left in our own devices
We must create a fair deal for all”

Sunny looked hard at his childhood friend
The years gone by so quickly now they moved
In different circles to accomplish something else
“I robbed the rich and give to the poor”

“Why you do that?”
“It's my job I make for myself
We work in small groups to avoid detection
So far we are very successful with our operations”

“At least the villagers here got something
You think the government helping them?
They live day to day to survive
The land all gone to the cronies”

Broken Tooth came
“Any thing new for me?”
“Nothing for you!”
“Two against one eh?”

Broken Tooth put on the radio
Tuning in to the political talk in the cities
“Now we take you to the political rallies
In the Cat city..”

Broken Tooth passed around packets of peanuts
As they tuned their ears to the broadcasts
“The rats come out in full force
Listening to the political talk of the leaders”

“Political rats? All of us?
I guess we are now
Until a change comes to our lives”
“Listen to the propaganda”

“We promise you
The riches you don't have
It's in our manifesto
We make this State great

The opposition can't give
The ablest leadership to manage this State
We have the experience and knowledge
We have been here for over 3 decades

It's not we wanted it
It is you who voted for us
So it is our honor to keep the pledge
To make every one of you taste the cake”

Sunny “He is telling lies”
Broken Tooth “They pocket all the wealth”
Model “ They bankrupt the State and nation”

“You have to believe us
We have our track records
You can see it for yourself
It's around us – we delivered!”

There were clapping
The spectators gathered on the field
Some enterprising individuals selling tee shirts
Some selling titbits and drinks

The crowd swelled to over 5,000
All kinds of colors on display
The police kept the crowd in control
As the white rajah drummed up support

In another avenue
The opposition leader argued
“We have no experience
We have the knowledge and skills

We can manage the state and country
Believe me we know how to run this place
You give us the mandate to manage
I promise we will not fail your trust

We will give you freedom
Laws which are oppressive will be avoided and appealed
You will have freedom of association and freedom of press
You will have free flow of internet information

You can make the change
Through the ballot boxes
This is the way to effect changes
You shouldn't leave in fear and obligations

You owe it to nobody
The leaders owing to you
The government leaders forget
They treat you like dirt!

Now you have a choice
You shouldn't blow it away
You have a chance to write
The way you want your script to be

You give us the mandate
You will live to regret it
We will fulfill the quests
In our administration elected by you

Now can you give us the mandate?
We are ready; we are able to do it
Bar End can say what it wants
We have the people to effect change
