all of us were immigrants once

All of us were immigrants once
We can’t say we aren’t
Through our lineage of our ancestors
We live here for generations

The original people
They didn’t chase us away
They lost their defences
Through the might of the immigrants

In history we read
The Majapahit and Srivijaya Empires
These empires spread it from Indonesia
Conquered the neighbouring countries

Then came the British and Portuguese
They made their marks on this land
On economy they brought in others
The Chinese, Indians and Indonesians

The original people were pushed to the forests
There they live and hunt and stay among themselves
While the immigrants build homes and claim the land
A government formed, a right given and a Constitution

The Sultans remain to bridge the races
They bring stability to enrich every one
Now we are one nation with one identity
We shouldn’t cling to our history any more

We have built a new nation
Here we will fight, die and remember
Our forefathers did it so we will have our homes
In a new land of colourful lights and joy
