the years passing by

The years passing by
So quietly in our lives
Childhood friends we meet
Decades finally say hello

The eyes of the yesteryears
Some you may recognize
Others you can try to remember
Placing events or something done

The smile and wishes
The years take its toll
White hair big bellies
Drinking beers eating well
No exercise always saying no time
Earning wealth seems the way

Yet the years quietly taking us away
Leaving us breathless as one tries to recall
Memories of childhood reflecting back
Life changes faces change

When we talk
We seem back to the familiar ground
Linking the past to the present
Reconnection of years gone by

The footprints had gone
Concrete buildings and highways
Places knew now obliterated
Only in memories the cries of birds
Dogs and cats, lizards and poultries
Black Maria and gangsters
Flying kites and playing marbles
On the ground now concrete buildings
And tarred roads to highways

We live memories
Of the years gone us by
The present all scattered around
Only meet on special occasions
