Mersing
of long ago
The
rubber trees and steel fencing
On
top the slope there was a praying altar
It
was suppose to chase way evil spirits
It
is along Endau Mersing Road
Not
so far from the town
A
woman could see the ghosts
“They
gathered around to see”
“The
god of the praying altar
He
patroled the area in the night
The
dead would not allow to enter
They
could only watch from the fence
On
certain day the ghosts are free
They
will walk through the fencing
They
will soak themselves in the pool
Enjoying
the life they have lost”
Occasionally
the girls would scream
In
the night of a woman and her child
Standing
under the canopy of leaves
The
girls said they were waving at them
The
area once was the burial ground
Of
the Japanese occupation in the war
Many
were beheaded and dumped on the ground
So
the ghosts would appear for the unlucky few
The
woman who could see
Sometimes
she would get a few lashes on her back
The
ghosts were chasing her
When
she was unlucky on that day
Life
in the quiet town
Now
it has changed
Of
the ghosts still hanging around
On
the place where they were dumped
