The old man stares to the road
Of the life he has worked and lived
Now he is old eyes sight failing
As he thinks to the time of his life
He was the man in his family
He worked hard to the future
Along the way he got married and had family
He thought he could have it all
When his children grew
Left the house to set up on their own
Leaving their parents to fend for themselves
They only visit on festive holidays
The old man stares to the road
Now he is old the children never came
They have totally forgotten about him
Leaving him alone staring into the empty space
What did he do to deserve this?
He has no answer as tears falling from his eyes
He gets up unsteadily holding on to his walking stick
As he turns away into his way of life – living alone
The old nurse walks in
Checking on his temperature
Smiling at him for the years
The old man smiling back
