our darkest day

Our darkest day
May 13 69
When racial clashes
Many died in the city
The troubled water
It had gone under the bridge
For decades we remembered history
We knew the reason

Today we see and hear
The extremists and bigots and zealots came
Brushing the familiar cry again
They forget they are the immigrants too

The authorities should act quickly
Then again we know the reason
The waves of the past came in focus
They let the bad apples rot for all

On Wesak Day
The light will shine brightly
The sins of the past will not be repeated
We haven't forgotten the sad story

We just want to move on
Grasp the opportunities on our way
We can't be reading backwards all the times
Tomorrow is the story of our lives
