In
the boxing ring
The
bouts exchange to the full
The
challenger throws so many punches
The
champion stays on his ground
Occasionally
the champion falls
He
hits the canvas breathing heavy
The
referee counts the seconds
He
gets up ready to fight
He
tries the rope a dope
Defending
himself on the rain of punches
The
challenger keeps throwing in
On
his head and body yet he holds
Sometimes
the champion leans on the rope
He
is afraid he is going to fall again
This
is his way to stop his wobbly legs
He
sees his day on the ring
The
challenger senses his victory
He
piles on his punches trying to find a way
The
champion stays on the rope
Until
the referee warns him
He
looks at the crowd
The
jeering haunt in his mind
He
tries his last stand on the centre
Trading
punches ringing in his ears
When
the knockout hits him
He
knows he is seeing stars
The
ringing door calling him
The
gate of Bamboo river sings
