When we were young
We were so innocent and care free
Running wild in the village
Chasing dogs and cats
The villages were the scenes
Of protection and learning
Without the hassle of issues
We could ignore the adult world
When we were young
We could play truant
We could tell lies and hide
Only the canes would fly
A few strokes to show
A low esteem and shame
But for a while in the day
Then the young would return
When we were young
Climbing rambutan trees
Chasing the humming birds
Catching the fire-flies
Playing top spinning
Playing marbles and coins
Playing ping-pong and street football
Swimming in the former mining pond
The sunset changed
The day we grew
Facing the world at large
Remembering the years we were young
