the memory of 69

In the hot summer of 69
I was standing watch
Around the houses
It was May 13

The good feeling
It gone into fear
When I heard gun shots fired
In the distance of the night

I heard stories
How many people were shot and killed
I was standing watch
In the night

The racial conflict didn't spread
I could cycle around when curfew lifted
The night was the fear of the conflict
But nothing happened in the village

The days turned normal
I could return to school
But the fear still haunt me
Though it stays in memory
