the open field

The open field
Nobody really using it
It opens to the public
Children too can enjoy

It doubles up as a children's playground
Sadly the open field is left empty most of the time
You can see the grass untouched for months
The outdoor activities never arrive

Maybe adults and children
They are involved with tablets and smartphones
The outdoor activities are left in limbo
The open field waiting for the laughter

Occasionally stray dogs snoozing under the shady trees
With the withered leaves falling on the ground
The sign of the times of the unused open field
The hearing only of the whirring breezes

The open field feels neglected
It longs for the laughter and cries
Of children running around
Of parents or guardians watching
