Old soldiers died and disappeared
Leaving their stories for others to tell
The heroes and the ordinary ones
Blazing trails keeping history alive

History books on selective narration
Depending on what the authors wanted to say
It is through the eyes of former soldiers
The good management skills are highlighted

I remembered General Borhan
A strict man tolerating no nonsense
Once when he was a Colonel then
Conducting a course for other army officers

One Lt Colonel who misbehaved
He was quickly packed off with disgrace
Colonel Borhan then didn't like what he received
So he acted quickly installed discipline

The last time I met him
When he was the Army chief
Still the good jolly man
Now he has retired from the Army

I too met ordinary commando soldiers
Battling stories to tell about communists
Fighting day and night in the jungles
One ex-commando said he didn't take prisoners
He shot them when the communists surrender
He was angry for them causing military problems

The good soldiers history will say
Friends and military officers will sing
Remembering the pathways travelled
And the memories shared and fought
Only we don't forget
The sacrifices they made
Protecting peace for the country
