Putu putu mayam
I never forgot the time
When the Indian man cycled by
In the olden days back in the village
White sugar white coconut flesh
For two or three pieces sitting under the tree
Enjoying the taste of it feeling the shady clouds
Those times inked in memory
Putu Mayam, but different
When I was staying in Penang
I found a Malay man selling
In cylinder bamboo and round plate putu
So there I was buying a few ringgit
It was good I kept returning in the evening
I guess by now
The putu seller has shifted
The cinema closed down
The oldest restaurant in town too
Leaving a vacuum where local food is concerned
In Alor Star where I was staying then
I hardly tried the putu mayam or putu piring
Maybe I didnt know where to find
Though I tried the Kedah Laksa in Kuala Kedah
Whenever I am down in Penang
I will sample the famous cendol at Penang Road
I still can't find another to duplicate it
And AH Guan apom balik at Macalister Road
The best I ever tasted staying in the Pearl of Orient
I will sample the famous cendol at Penang Road
I still can't find another to duplicate it
And AH Guan apom balik at Macalister Road
The best I ever tasted staying in the Pearl of Orient
Good food saliva whetting apetite
Pay the money worth the time
Only one can find it often
In places where one is living or once stayed
