the footprints 3

Down to traffic jams
The city of dreams
The way people think about it
Make the money and split

So he arrived
The building uncompleted
The tallest building then
He wished he knew

An old former colleague said
Finding accommodation wasn't a problem
As he arrived in the city
He couldn't find

Maybe he didn't try harder
He came he saw he returned
Within the same day and night
He was at lost for a while

The second attempt he found
A place to stay for a while
Though he didn't like the place
He had to put it up for now

Working in a new place
He found he had to adjust
Slowly he got the routine
Everyday inspecting the building

The businessmen he met
Arranging for the supplies
It was quite an experience
Living in the city

The years on the hill
It could dull in his mind
Now in the vibrant city
He had to chase with time

Season gone season begun
The building was done
He got himself a nice room
In the center of the town

Now the beginning
With his new love he found
Together they carved out their footprints
Amongst the locals they met

Years gone swiftly
New building came
The traffic jams became worst
At the roundabout

Night market in the center
It was a walking distance
A leisurely walk finding out fruits
And stalls selling many foods

People talked about legends
The islands of the State
He didn't pay much attention
Even land sold for a cow

Those were the years
He didn't want to reach it
An opportunity he didn't grab
So were those around him

He heard some gone over
Getting good pay and bonuses
For the islands then wasn't known
Many were reluctant to ship there

So he stayed on the mainland
Watching the years gone....
He didn't make a lot
He felt he was contented

The economic turbulence
It hit him in the bull eyes
He woke up to find the problem
What happened he lost his job?

Then he realized
Everything couldn't be there
It has to evolved and changed
So he worked harder...

Even that wasn't enough
One has to play smart
In this game of economic survival
It isn't for the weak mind

He got some poison pen letters
Degrading him for what he did
Though he thought he knew whom
Those were the friends he knew

One was close to him
The man he knew back in their younger days
Before he left he admitted his plot
He even told him who were the others

So he learned as well as he could
One shouldn't trust a person 100%
One must maintain a 10% to hold it
In the years it stood him good...

He learned it too
Not every one wanted to dirty hands
So he showed them going down the drain
Eventually every one in the group came

Show by example
Nobody can run away
Say what you want to do
Do it and keep the promise

He remembered one incident
A hardworking guy got killed in a car accident
He told him to drive carefully
The guy just smile then he was gone

A head on collision
He died on the spot
He could remember his name
And his smile as he drove away

Nobody could predict life
How it would turn out to be
Today, tomorrow and beyond
Only yesterday one could say

In between his job
He met the former prime minister
He managed to get his autograph
And a picture shaking his hand

Those years in his job
He met a few umno leaders
Police officers of the State
Then it was time to move on

Back to the old town
Far from the city life
He was there
And the woman of his life
