penang taxi

courtesy of The Star

The ruse has been happening many years ago. Put on the meters and earn an honest living. The taxi drivers will say they can't survive. They have to pay a daily rental of $35 and cough out petrol on the taxi which in a day can't cover the costs. I wonder what other taxi drivers in other states say....."Tak bolih cari makan?" The taxi drivers in Penang want everything for themselves. They have to think of others too. The public wants a fair charge to any destination and not be cheated by taxi drivers. Now every taxi driver called in 'sick' Imagine every one is sick! The authority should cancel their licences and let them find other works since they already said they can't survive with meter reading. There are people who need work. Perhaps the graduates should take up driving. NO??? In this way we have a well educated drivers on the roads to help the tourists and or local people moving around Penang. If these uncivilised taxi drivers in Penang can't follow rules on meters, the authority should find alternative way to ease the transport woes in the state. (Even in Langkawi the taxi drivers want to have everything but their services are poor. There is about 600 taxi drivers on the island but you can't find them on Friday or Hari Raya. Even if you have, these taxi drivers will take quite a while to respond. Now they are clashing with the pirate taxi drivers who provide a better service than the regulated taxi drivers) In Penang I find the methods different but the issues I think are the same. They want to make more money and nobody can share it with them or undercut them. Even authority shouldnt come after them. They are the kings on the road (The trishaws are the dying breed in Penang now)

Penang Island isnt shining
